The Gold Standard

The candle wax that
defined luxury
for three millennia.

Beeswax has been the gold standard in candles for more than 3,000 years. Long before paraffin existed. Long before soy was invented. The light of palaces, cathedrals, royal ceremonies, and the great creative acts of human history. When you burn a Hive & Harmony candle, you are burning the same wax — by the same light — as every great moment that came before.

"We discovered beeswax the way you discover something you didn't know you'd been missing — and immediately wondered how we'd burned anything else."

I
One ingredient
Beeswax. That is the entire ingredient list.
One substance, exactly as nature made it. No other candle wax begins in a form already ready to burn.
II
Straight from the hive
Beeswax leaves the hive already pure.
We filter it. We shape it. That is all. The entire journey from hive to candle, in nine words.
III
Ancient. Proven. Unchanged.
The pure light that has lit cathedrals and palaces for more than 3,000 years.
Egyptian temples. Medieval churches. Royal courts. Nothing has ever replaced it — because nothing has ever bettered it.
IV
Burns longer and brighter
Beeswax is the densest candle wax available.
It burns at a higher temperature, lasts significantly longer at equivalent size, and produces a brighter, steadier flame — closer in colour temperature to natural daylight than any other wax.
V
The natural honey scent
Pure beeswax carries a faint, natural honey warmth — not from added fragrance, but from the wax itself.
Over 280 naturally occurring compounds, shaped by the floral sources the colony visits. No two batches are identical.
VI
Made by bees. Perfected by nature.
A single female bee produces approximately one eighth of a teaspoon of wax in her entire lifetime.

Every candle represents the life's work of thousands of bees — which is why we give 10% of every profit back to bee conservation.

The making

We are two people who
found something we
couldn't stop doing.

"Most people spend their working lives looking for something they genuinely love. We were lucky. Bettina found it in beeswax — and we built everything else around that."

Our studio in Sydney's Northern Beaches is not a factory. It is the place where Bettina has hand-dipped, hand-rolled, and hand-poured every single candle we have ever sold. The process is slow by design. Each candle is unique. Each one carries the evidence of the hands that made it — and the love of someone who genuinely cannot imagine doing anything else.

01
The dipping
Hand-dipped tapers are built layer by layer — each pass through the wax adding another coat, another fraction of a millimetre.
Bettina has dipped so many candles she can read the wax by sound. The rhythm, the timing, the angle of the dip — it becomes instinct. A flow state you cannot rush or fake.
02
The rolling
A sheet of pure beeswax honeycomb, warmed gently until it is just pliable, then rolled with precision around a wick.
Every millimetre must be exactly placed. We have an unofficial competition in the studio — who can roll the most perfect candle. The standard keeps rising. Every candle we send out has passed that bar.
03
The moulding
Molten beeswax poured into a mould and left to set.
When the mould comes off — there is always a moment. Even now, after hundreds of candles, Bettina pauses. A thing that did not exist an hour ago is sitting there, perfect. That feeling has never faded. We hope it never does.
04
The material
Pure Australian beeswax sourced from beekeepers in the NSW Central Tablelands.
Pure beeswax, exactly as it left the hive. We filter it for clarity and shape it into candles. That is the entire process — from hive to your home.
05
The studio
Sydney's Northern Beaches. A space that smells faintly of honey on warm days.
The natural warmth of beeswax in the air. Chemical-free by nature, not by policy. The wax demands it, and Bettina's commitment to everything pure makes it a natural consequence of the work.
06
Come and see
We open the studio on Saturdays.
You can sit at the same bench, work with the same wax, and leave with candles you made yourself. Our workshops are not a class — they are an invitation into the process we love. Most people who come once come back. Some bring their friends.
From the studio · Sydney's Northern Beaches

"Every candle that leaves our studio has been touched by human hands at every stage. There is no machine that does what Bettina does. That is not a claim we make lightly — it is simply the truth of how we work."

already perfect.

Beeswax is the only commercially available candle wax that leaves the hive in a form already ready to burn.

The bees do the work. We filter it. We shape it. We wick it. What stands between the hive and your home is craft and care — nothing else.

"Pure beeswax is the one substance in the candle world that arrives exactly as nature intended — unchanged in character for more than 3,000 years of human use."

The Ritual

How you burn it
matters as much
as what you burn.

Before electric light, lighting a candle was an act of intention. It still is. Four rituals for four moments in a day that deserve more than a switch on the wall.
